The chart of the week examines home price growth by decade, starting in 1990. Recently, there has been a consensus view among current and potential homeowners that home prices have increased significantly, and they are all correct! Since the beginning of 2020, home prices have risen by 47%. When compared to home prices starting in 1990, 2000, and 2010, they have increased by similar percentages, but only over those 4+ years. What does this mean for future prices? Only time will tell. It is worth noting that home prices from 2000 also increased similarly over their first 50 months, reaching a peak growth of over 80% before falling during the Global Financial Crisis.
