With equity markets as volatile as they’ve been, much attention is being paid to what’s in store going forward. While many factors will impact market returns, the focus right now is on corporate earnings. This week’s chart of the week looks at analysts’ expectations for corporate earnings in 2022 and 2023. Whether or not the economy will enter a recession remains debatable, but historically, earnings tend to decline approximately -13% in a recession. At the moment, analysts are not expecting significant declines in earnings.
